Holy crap tomorrow starts a new year. How did we get to the end of 2021 so quickly? Do you have any NYE plans? As for my family, it’ll be more of the same old thing from previous years; cook, board game it up, pray, countdown to the New Year, family dance party, bed…. yup, pretty good stuff huh!
Along with that, My Mom absolutely loves making New Year’s Resolutions. One thing I like to do instead of making resolutions (which I never keep) is to choose a word or words that I can focus on throughout the year. Choosing a word allows for clarity and focus in order to make positive changes where necessary.
I learned about this tactic a few years ago during a Personal Branding/Vision Board workshop I attended. Instead of using the usual cut-out pictures to display our vision/personal goals, we were instructed to choose a word/words that resonated with us, words that would catapult us into having the future we desired. The goal of this workshop was centered around being our true authentic selves and allowing for a shift in perspective by focusing on the future.
Before choosing these words, we took an inventory and assessed or reassessed our goals for that current year. We started out by answering the following questions:
-What worked well?
-What didn’t work that I have the ability to change?
-How do I envision my future?
By answering these questions, we could be intentional about our focus for the future.
That being said, after a bit of back and forth trying to narrow it down, my chosen words for 2022 are: Courage, Grace and Consistency. Why these words you ask?
*Courage – I am certainly an “inside the box” type person. I tend to feel anxious or fearful anytime I’m being pushed outside of my comfort zone, but I realize that in order to grow, I will need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. In the words of the great Joyce Meyer: Do It Afraid!
*Grace – Like most people, I tend to be my harshest critic when things don’t seem to work out. You know how it is, we want to succeed at everything on the very first try. I need to remember to give myself grace in understanding that sometimes things may not work or look the way I envisioned. Sometimes, it requires a tweak or pivot in a new direction and that’s perfectly okay. Life is not meant to be lived in a linear fashion. Grace says, its ok that this didn’t work or do not let this mistake define you.
*Consistency– I am the driver of the struggle bus for this. I need to be consistent in every area of my life; my blogging, my journaling, you name it. This is key when trying to accomplish small goals.
Choosing a word is meant to support you and your overall goals so be intentional about the words you select. You are the creator of your own destiny any only you can define what those words mean to you.
Remember, The Best is yet to come!
Cheers to a HEALTHY and ABUNDANT 2022!!!!!
